Shadow II is a product of Pure Seed Testing's turf grass
research program, and features an improved dark green color and
improved disease resistance over the acclaimed Shadow Chewings
fescue of the late 1970s.
As the top-performing fine fescue in the 1998 NTEP trials, Shadow
II, should be featured for shade tolerance and low maintenance golf
course extreme roughs. Shadow II mixes well with Bighorn sheep's
fescue, hard fescues such as Discovery, and creeping red fescues
like Shademaster II and Seabreeze.
Shadow II fescue grass seed is also ideal for mixing with Turf-Seed's elite
Kentucky bluegrasses and perennial ryegrasses. Adding shade
tolerance and low maintenance benefits, Shadow II should be
specified in mixtures parks, residential and commercial lawns, sod
production, roadsides, plus golf course fairways, and both short and
extreme roughs.
Seeding and Maintenance Of Shadow II Chewings Fescue
Shadow II fescue grass performs well in most soils with a pH ranging from 5.5 to
8.0. and exhibits good drought tolerance. With supplemental
irrigation during establishment, germination takes place in 7-15
days, depending on soil temperatures. First mowing is typically
needed in about 30 days. For low maintenance turf areas, 1 to 2 lbs.
of actual N per 1,000 sq. ft. annually is adequate, with 3 to 5 lbs.
sufficient for high maintenance conditions.
