 A very dark green,
very dwarf type tall fescue
that saves on
fertilizer, mowing and clipping removal.
Matador 'turf-type'
tall fescue is an improved cultivar from Turf-Seed, Inc., that shows
genetic improvement for turf performance over older tall rescue
varieties. Matador tall rescue was tested in
NTEP trials as PST-5LMR.
| Matador has a
dark green color with very good Fusarium nivale, stem and
crown rust resistance. Matador has a reduced vertical growth
rate that forms a uniform, dense, wear tolerant turf with
good performance in droughty regions. |

Matador Uses:
Matador is a versatile, sturdy turf ideally suited for sod
production, home lawns, athletic fields, parks, golf course roughs,
industrial campuses, roadside enhancement, airstrips and campsites.
Tall Fescue, when mixed with 5% improved Kentucky bluegrass like
BlueStar or Livingston, makes a luxurious turf for sod production
and home lawns.
Maintenance:
Matador has a low to moderate nitrogen requirement with 2-3 lbs. of
N (Nitrogen) per year per 1,000 sq. ft., adequate in most
situations. With its moderate growth habit, Matador thrives with a 1
½ to 2 ½" cut. Matador requires significantly less water than
perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass to maintain a lush, green,
vigorous stand.
Establishment:
For general use, recommended seeding rate is 8-10 lbs. per 1,000 sq.
ft. Cover seed to a depth of no more than ¼". Keep seedlings moist
until well rooted. The first mowing can be expected after 30 days,
or when grass blades reach a length of 3". Mow back to 2" until turf
is established. Matador will withstand mowing to 1 ¼". Limited use
can be expected in six weeks.
