an average spring green-up
time. Thus far, data shows this variety to be superior in color,
growth habit, texture, and disease resistance to both Hubbard 87
and Shenandoah varieties. Duster has a finer texture and is lower
growing than Rebel Jr.

| Duster has shown
an above average resistance to Ne Blotch in New Jersey
(Rutgers University) and an above average resistance to
Brown Patch and Rust in Georgia.
It is most comparable in color to
Tomahawk (5DX), a new variety to appear in the 1993
National Tall Fescue Trial, but has a finer texture than

Duster can perform well under lower maintenance
programs because it has a lower growth habit than
many other tall fescues, has exceptional heat and drought
tolerance, and very good wear tolerance.

MEAN TURFGRASS QUALITY AND SEEDING VIGOR RATINGS OF
TALL FESCUE CULTIVARS IN THE 1992 NATIONAL TALL FESCUE TEST (HIGH
MAINTENANCE) AT BELTSVILLE, MD. 1992-1993 DATA
Duster is a lower growing, dark green variety which
forms a dense turf for sod production, home lawns, parks, athletic
fields and golf course roughs. It contains the superior progeny of
30 medium early, very low growing, fine textured breeding lines.
Duster is a top performing variety in the California, Virginia,
and New Jersey turf trials and shows good disease resistance to
brown patch, fusarium patch, and net blotch. It has an average
spring green-up time and thus far, NTEP data shows Duster to be
superior in color, leaf texture, and disease resistance when
compared to Arid, Bonanza, Silverado, and Rebel 3-D varieties.
Maintenance:
Duster has a low to moderate nitrogen
requirement with 2-3 pounds of actual N per 1,000 square feet per
year adequate in most situations. Duster's optimum mowing
height is 1.5-2.5 inches but can be adjusted higher or lower
depending upon maintenance practices and intended use. It requires
significantly less water than perennial ryegrass and Kentucky
Bluegrass to maintain a lush, green, vigorous stand.
Establishment:
Cover seed to a depth not exceeding ¼" and keep seedlings
moist until well rooted. The first mowing may be expected after 30
days, or when the grass blades reach a length of 3". Mow back
to 2" until turf is established. Limited use of the area can
be expected in 6 weeks. Duster can withstand a mowing
height of 1.25 inches.
Duster may be mixed with 5-10% Kentucky
Bluegrass like Blue Star or Chateau
for a luxurious turf.
