Description:
Discovery produces a dark green, fine leafed, dense, low-growing
turf of excellent quality; Discovery excels where mowing, water, and
fertilization requirements are low or non-existent; It has excellent
winter hardiness, excellent shade adaptation, and spring green-up.
Discovery has many uses:
Discovery is an excellent choice for golf course extreme roughs,
highway shoulders, parks, and expansive areas that would otherwise
be costly to maintain and wear is not a factor. Discovery can be
mixed with other fine fescues like Tiffany Chewings, Shademaster II
Creeping Red, and Bighorn Sheeps for use in golf course long roughs
for a wavy "dunes" look.
When combined with 1/3
each perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass, you have an
all-around mixture useful for home lawns, parks, and other areas
where sun, shade, wear, and economy of maintenance are factors.
Seeding and Maintenance:
Discovery performs well in a wide range of soils where light
irrigation is available. It will withstand moderate drought
conditions. Ideal soil pH is from 5.5 to 8.0. For low
maintenance, 1 to 2 lbs. of actual nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. per
year is ample. 3 to 5 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. for high maintenance.
After seeding, germination will take place in about 7 to 15 days,
depending on soil temperatures, and first mowing can be expected in
about 30 days.
Seeding rates:
Home lawns - 8 to 10 lbs. / 1,000 sq. ft.
Parks, golf courses extreme roughs - 250 lbs. / acre - Mixed 1/3,
1/3, 1/3 with perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass.
