Defiance XRE Tall Fescue Grass Seed

Defiance XRE Tall Fescue Grass Seed is a fescue grass seed blend featuring at least 2 tall fescue varieties that spreads with rhizomes. XRE stands for eXtreme Rhizome Expression. The high incidence of rhizomes in these varieties, combined with other improved tall fescue varieties, gives Defiance XRE faster recovery from injury, superior wear resistance and better ability to recover from stress than other tall fescue mixtures. In addition to rhizomes, Defiance XRE also has very high levels of endophytes, which give it a natural resistance to many surface feeding insects.

The value of Rhizomes in grass are that they give plants the ability to spread densely (tightly) throughout the lawn area and provide a strong knitting ability, enabling easier sod lifting. Rhizomes in a Tall Fescue give what is normally a clump grass some spreading ability (slight repair ability). This allows for an increase in possible repair ability over time to replace close-by plants that may have been damaged by sport activities or by weather or other site issues.

Please be aware that failure to seed Defiance XRE Tall Fescue at the proper seeding rates will result in a non-uniform density requiring reseeding to correct.

Recommended Seeding Rates

New turf: 8-10 pounds per 1,000 square feet.
350-400 pounds per acre 20 LBS Plants 2,000 to 2500 sq. ft to plant a new lawn.
Plant Tall Fescues at 8-10 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. to achieve a proper turf lawn density establishment.
