Defiance XRE Tall Fescue is a fescue blend featuring Grande . Grande & Grande II are the only tall fescue variety with rhizomes to be granted Plant Variety Protection (PVP) certification. The high incidence of rhizomes in Grande, combined with other improved tall fescue varieties, gives Defiance XRE faster recovery from injury, superior wear resistance and better ability to recover from stress than other tall fescue mixtures. In addition to rhizomes, Defiance XRE also has very high levels of endophytes, which give it a natural resistance to many surface feeding insects.

XRE Defiance Features Ideal for commercial landscape, sports fields, parks, golf roughs, and residential lawns Dark green color Medium fine texture Semi-dwarf growing habit Excellent disease resistance The value of Rhizomes are that they give plants the ability to spread densely (tightly) throughout the lawn area and provide strong knitting ability, enabling easier sod lifting.  Rhizomes in a Tall Fescue give what is normally a clump grass some spreading ability (slight repair ability). This allows for an increase in possible repair ability over time to replace close-by plants that may have been damaged by sport activities or by weather or other site issues.
